Hello Glendale,
This website and blog, is an effort on my part to live up to my campaign promises and encourage open and transparent government. It has been six months since the elections in Glendale, and city operations have started to change from, the “what do you want from us” culture to “How can I help you” culture. We do have a long way to go, and with the hiring of the new City Manager, my hopes are high.
The most difficult issues that I had to deal with thus far are the people issues. In this economy, there are many families and elderly that are at their wits end, and it seems their last hope is some kind of assistance from the City, mostly regarding housing and some employment issues. I do meet with those requesting meetings with me regarding their situation, however most of the time it is just an exchange or update of information. I have requested that staff prepare a flyer that lists all of the assistance services available to the community so I can hand it out during my meetings. This should be helpful.
Council meeting is almost upon us for tonight. On the agenda is my Civil Service Commission appointee Garo Ghazarian, you might have seen him on the TV circuits the last couple of months, commenting on the Michael Jackson trial. We also have the status of the Rose Float, approval of the City Manager employment contract and approval of historic listing of two properties. We’ll see how it turns out.
